GPS low battery event messages
In the event the supply voltage for the tracking module falls below a certain threshold, an event notification
will be set as shown below.
If the event is for a vehicle, then the vehicle’s battery is being depleted, and needs to be charged to
ensure there are no starting problems. An alert will be sent when the battery voltage drops to 11.5VDC or
less.
If the event is for a non-powered asset, then the trackers internal battery needs to be charged. An
alert will be sent when the internal battery voltage drops to 3.4VDC or less.
Actual battery life is dependent on many variables such as; proximity to a cell tower, how many daily loca-
tion reports are made, and temperature.
Charging the Asset Tracker battery
To charge the asset tracker, any 6 to 24VDC @ 1Ah source can be used. There is no need to worry about a
“charger” since the charging circuitry is built into the device and prevents overcharging.
Fabricating a simple charging cable (using quality workmanship) would make this repeated charging task easy.
TCAT
Connect the + lead of the charging voltage to the asset tracker’s RED wire, and
the (GND) lead of the charging voltage to the asset trackers BLACK wire.
For this asset tracker, a charge time of 4 hours would ensure a full charge even
in cold weather.
TCAT-EB
Connect the + lead of the charging voltage to the asset tracker’s RED wire, and
the (GND) lead of the charging voltage to the asset trackers BLACK wire.
For this asset tracker, a charge time of 10 hours would ensure a full charge
even in cold weather.
